The Pepperl+Fuchs KFD2-SH-Ex1.T.OP is a rail-mounted, galvanically isolated signal conditioner designed for use in potentially explosive atmospheres. Intrinsic Safety (I.S.) Barrier: The module provides intrinsic safety for field devices. It limits the energy (voltage and current) that can be transmitted into the hazardous area, preventing the possibility of ignition from electrical sparks or thermal effects. This allows safe connection of devices like sensors (e.g., temperature sensors like Pt100) or switches in Zone 1/21 and Zone 2/22.
Signal Conditioning and Conversion: It conditions and converts input signals from the field into standardized output signals for the control system (e.g., PLC, DCS). This specific model is typically used for resistance thermometer (RTD) inputs like Pt100.
Galvanic Isolation: It provides high-grade electrical isolation (typically 2.5 kV or more) between the input (hazardous side), the output (safe side), and the power supply. This prevents ground loops, protects sensitive control equipment from transients and interference, and ensures accurate signal transmission.
Easy Configuration (".OP" suffix): The ".OP" in the part number indicates that this module is equipped with an integrated front-face operator interface. This allows for easy, on-the-fly configuration using a standard screwdriver without needing to remove the module from the DIN rail. Users can set parameters such as input type (e.g., 2-wire, 3-wire, 4-wire Pt100), temperature range, and output behavior.
